Horsegirl // Cheryl Dunn

Horsegirl are headlining High Noon Saloon today in support of their debut album, Versions of Modern Performance. Supported by Chicago trio, Lifeguard,  this will be Horsegirl’s second time taking on the music venue.

The band signed to Matador Records while they were still in high school with only three songs to their name available for streaming. Their first full length LP has since been released under Matador. The band’s musical heroes–whose influence is audible in Versions of Modern Performance–are signed to the same label, including Belle and Sebastian, Gang of Four, Pavement and Yo La Tengo.

The 90s noise and indie rock sounds that color Horsegirl’s music are authentic, harsh, loud and fresh. Their sound, although vintage, is refreshing. There’s not a lot of people out there doing what Horsegirl are; and even fewer are doing it as well as they do.

Known for their unusually small discography for a band with so much public discourse, Horsegirl released Versions of Modern Performance in May of 2022. Heavily praised for their 2020 and 2021 singles, “Ballroom Dance Scene” and “Billy,” respectively, Horsegirl stay true to their sharp, youthful and intuitive lyrics on tracks like “Anti-Glory” and “Beautiful Song.”

Horsegirl are proud of their Chicago roots, touring with friends and fellow Chicago musicians Lifeguard. The three teenagers also sell zines at their shows in support of DIY and independent artists.

Horsegirl were featured in print in the Dare Issue last Spring. Stop by High Noon Saloon tonight to see Horsegirl before their complete catapult into the music scene.
